If you want to bring a bit of Florida or the Caribbean to your indoor bonsai tree collection, then you may want to add a Dwarf Black Olive bonsai to your collection. While it may not resemble some of the large palm trees that you think of when you think of the Caribbean, it is native to the region. This bonsai tree features dark, blue-green leaves that are leathery in texture and can grow to be more than an inch long. They generally grow at the tips of the branches while one inch spines grow along the smooth truck and other parts of the branches. The Dwarf Black Olive is an evergreen tree, but it does produce small, black seeds every year. Just don’t eat them—they aren’t edible. This bonsai loves the heat and doesn’t do well in temperatures less than 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
To keep some indoor bonsai happy, you need to keep them in the sun and in the heat. While you can grow some indoor bonsai outside during some seasons, others really need to be kept indoors. Because it loves the heat, you can put the Dwarf Black Olive outside during really hot months, but if you live in colder climates, it may have to be a permanent indoor bonsai.
