In today’s day and age, a number of new formats have arrived on the internet provider landscape. When Hi-Speed DSL services first emerged on the scene, their popularity strongly derived from the fact that such internet service was (is) dramatically faster than dial up. Technology, of course, is a perpetually evolving entity. That is why there are systems that claim to be faster than DSL. Satellite and cable internet are currently making such a claim. However, such claims may not entirely be accurate. This is because the speed of DSL internet is far more expedient than most people realize.

Specifically, high speed internet providers are currently offering DSL systems that possess speeds upwards of 6 Mbps. Yes, there are also systems that offer slower speeds in the 700 kbps range and several points in between. Ultimately, the speed you acquire will be based on the specific speed you select. The key point here is that there are varying degrees of speed you can choose from. So, to assume that DSL is not as fast as cable or satellite would be an incorrect assumption since the truth answer would be based on the type of DSL system you select. Some of these systems come with speeds that are quite impressive.

If you are currently thinking of switching internet providers, be sure to check out the latest Comcast specials. They usually run an online only offer for $19.99 for the first 6 months with additional cash back incentives. This offer is for what I consider their lightning speed plan that has speeds up to one hundred times faster than dialup. Out of all the high speed cable providers I have reviewed, Comcast has on of the strongest offerings. They have a slower plan, which is only 14 times faster than dialup and is priced at $24.95. However, they have not introduced online promotions for that particular plan lately.

One of the most important decisions aside from price is the reliability of your ISP. I have been a Comcast cable subscriber for over 3 years and have only experienced interruption in service once. The problem was easily solved. I called customer service and they offered to either send me a new modem or have me come in and pick one up. I plugged in the new unit and have been up and running ever since. On a final note, one of the best things you can do prior to signing up for any internet service provider is to ask your neighbors how they like their service. Their unbiased opinion will give you a clear picture of each ISP’s reliability.
